Where our journey began…..

Picture3

Here is where it all began. Meet Dora. Dora was at our local shelter in Tampa Florida when I met her. I had no idea what I was doing but between my husband and I, we decided that we wanted to do our small part and try and save dogs that were set to be euthanized. Poor little Dora was on that list. She was a quiet girl that was just sitting in her kennel. No barking, no jumping, really no life in her. She had obviously just had babies and more than likely was let go afterwards (more common than you may think) so she sat alone on a concrete floor just watching people go by and hearing her neighbors bark at all hours of the day and night. Dora was my first but she would definitely not be my last. Luckily for us, she was a dream. We took her home and introduced her to our two boys and she loved them. We were new and we did it all wrong but somehow it worked out. She was only with us for a month before a nice family wanted to adopt her. Mother and Daughter that wanted a playmate for their current dog. They changed her name to Bella and had her in their life for two years. I kept in contact with her and one day got the dreaded call – they could no longer keep her. Without hesitation I took her back. By this time I had joined a support group (a rescue) that happily helped me place her again. This time I knew it was for real. She is very loved, cared for and spoiled. She has siblings to play with and a big yard to run around in. There are others like Bella that need our support. I know we can’t save them all but we can do a little to help. Spay and Neuter your pets to stop unwanted litters, volunteer at your local shelter or animal placement center, adopt from a rescue, donate to one or even better….open your home and your heart to an animal in need and they will give it back to you 10 fold. http://www.secondchancefriends.org

*Adopted* Lola Mae

I am happy to tell you that Miss Lola Mae was adopted by her forever family last week. She has a new sister, Cleo and a bunch of pups that come and visit next door to her all the time. She will be getting a lot of love and attention in her new environment. I spent 8 months with this wonderful little girl and she definitely grew on me. I am so excited to see her blossom into a well rounded dog and can’t wait for the updates from her new mom.

Lola Mae – shelter survior

I was rescued from the shelter in September 2015 by my foster mom. She picked ME and I am so lucky she did. She told me I was on “the list” and I am not sure what that meant but by her look, it was not a good list to be on. She took me home to this new place which was scary at first, there were other animals there I did not know and I was introduced to a cat – yuck! It took me some time to adjust but I finally did and I am much happier now. I have learned a lot staying with her, she has taught me manners and how to be a better dog. I still have some learning to do but I am sure I will get there, I am a smart girl. My journey has just begun and although my foster mom says that one day a family will come that will keep me forever and give me the love that she has, I know that I am safe and in a good place right now. If you think you can be that family, I would love to meet you one day! XOXO Lola Mae
